Crusades
Actually, this statement ("Kill them all" etc.) was allegedly made at the massacre at Beziers, France, in 1209, during the Catholic crusade against the Cathars (Albigensians).  The Papal legate was asked how to tell Catholic from 'heretic,' and the response was as above.  But you're right, the sentiment hasn't changed much.
