George Bush and the Politics of Terror

By Larry Johnson

Wed Aug 16th, 2006 at 04:41:58 PM EDT :: Bush

As George Bush said, "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me --- you can't get fooled again." Or, how about the old saying, "if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it's a duck." Why the snark? Just watch the Keith Olbermann's brilliant presentation - which shows conclusive, indisputable evidence that George Bush and his minions have used bogus terrorist threats to distract public attention from embarrassing political news - and you too will become a member of the reality-based community (thanks to John Amato at Crooks and Liars for posting this up).

Ten. Count em. Ten separate incidents where the Bush administration issued public warnings of imminent attacks that subsequently turned out to be non-existent or misleading. George Bush is the boy who cried Wolf, Wolf, Wolf, Wolf, Wolf ... and no end is in sight.

Olbermann deserves an Emmy and a Pulitzer for this report. He's done a public service. He has blazed a trail the rest of the media, print and electronic, ought to follow. Just as Edward R. Murrow confronted the red-baiter Senator McCarthy, Olbermann has performed a similar service to America by standing up to the fearmongering of Bush. Please ensure your friends and relatives see this piece.

This is a well done piece.

Will they dare "postpone" elections due to a terrorist plot?  Will they escalate their tactics -- say by staging a terror attack?

Will they bomb Iran?

We have to stop letting them get away with this.

Will they dare...?
It is my belief that there is nothing they will NOT dare.

After all, they got away with the only actual coup in the history of the United States and have continued to get away with every other crime they have committed since.
Are you naive enough to say "What coup?"

Maybe I can refresh some memories.  It was the one where a man we DID NOT ELECT was placed in the White House, appointed by five Supreme Court justices who then behaved as if their impartiality and integrity had not been irretrievably compromised, and who - this is the important part, for it is one of the most telling and characteristic features of a genuine coup - BROUGHT WITH HIM and placed in positions of power a group of men (Rumsfeld, Cheney et al and other members of the Board of Directors of Halliburton and Brown and Root and key architects of the PNAC) who were owned by special interests, who had no duty to keep campaign promises to constituents, and who had their own agenda which had nothing to do with what the voters and the American people wanted for this country.  That's important because, generally, the "leader" himself in such a coup is a mere figurehead, chosen mostly to "look good" to the populace, while the real power rests in the hands of that group.

So..."will they dare?"...
Why wouldn't they?

And what can stop them?
Avoid being seized by the police. The cops are not your friends. Don't tell them anything. Hunter S. Thompson

The UK Terror plot: What's Really Going On?
by Craig Murray
http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0815-36.htm

I have been reading very carefully through all the Sunday newspapers to try and analyse the truth from all the scores of pages claiming to detail the so-called bomb plot. Unlike the great herd of so-called security experts doing the media analysis, I have the advantage of having had the very highest security clearances myself, having done a huge amount of professional intelligence analysis, and having been inside the spin machine.

So this, I believe, is the true story.

None of the alleged terrorists had made a bomb. None had bought a plane ticket. Many did not even have passports, which given the efficiency of the UK Passport Agency would mean they couldn't be a plane bomber for quite some time.

In the absence of bombs and airline tickets, and in many cases passports, it could be pretty difficult to convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt that individuals intended to go through with suicide bombings, whatever rash stuff they may have bragged in internet chat rooms.

What is more, many of those arrested had been under surveillance for over a year - like thousands of other British Muslims. And not just Muslims. Like me. Nothing from that surveillance had indicated the need for early arrests.

Then an interrogation in Pakistan revealed the details of this amazing plot to blow up multiple planes - which, rather extraordinarily, had not turned up in a year of surveillance. Of course, the interrogators of the Pakistani dictator have their ways of making people sing like canaries. As I witnessed in Uzbekistan, you can get the most extraordinary information this way. Trouble is it always tends to give the interrogators all they might want, and more, in a desperate effort to stop or avert torture. What it doesn't give is the truth.
The gentleman being "interrogated" had fled the UK after being wanted for questioning over the murder of his uncle some years ago. That might be felt to cast some doubt on his reliability. It might also be felt that factors other than political ones might be at play within these relationships. Much is also being made of large transfers of money outside the formal economy. Not in fact too unusual in the British Muslim community, but if this activity is criminal, there are many possibilities that have nothing to do with terrorism.

We then have the extraordinary question of Bush and Blair discussing the possible arrests over the weekend. Why? I think the answer to that is plain. Both in desperate domestic political trouble, they longed for "Another 9/11". The intelligence from Pakistan, however dodgy, gave them a new 9/11 they could sell to the media. The media has bought, wholesale, all the rubbish they have been shovelled.
We then have the appalling political propaganda of John Reid, Home Secretary, making a speech warning us all of the dreadful evil threatening us and complaining that "Some people don't get" the need to abandon all our traditional liberties. He then went on, according to his own propaganda machine, to stay up all night and minutely direct the arrests. There could be no clearer evidence that our Police are now just a political tool. Like all the best nasty regimes, the knock on the door came in the middle of the night, at 2:30 am. Those arrested included a mother with a six week old baby.

For those who don't know, it is worth introducing Reid. A hardened Stalinist with a long term reputation for personal violence, at Stirling Univeristy he was the Communist Party's "Enforcer", (in days when the Communist Party ran Stirling University Students' Union, which it should not be forgotten was a business with a very substantial cash turnover). Reid was sent to beat up those who deviated from the Party line.

We will now never know if any of those arrested would have gone on to make a bomb or buy a plane ticket. Most of them do not fit the "Loner" profile you would expect - a tiny percentage of suicide bombers have happy marriages and young children. As they were all under surveillance, and certainly would have been on airport watch lists, there could have been little danger in letting them proceed closer to maturity - that is certainly what we would have done with the IRA.

In all of this, the one thing of which I am certain is that the timing is deeply political. This is more propaganda than plot. Of the over one thousand British Muslims arrested under anti-terrorist legislation, only twelve per cent are ever charged with anything. That is simply harrassment of Muslims on an appalling scale. Of those charged, 80% are acquitted. Most of the very few - just over two per cent of arrests - who are convicted, are not convicted of anything to do terrorism, but of some minor offence the Police happened upon while trawling through the wreck of the lives they had shattered.

Be sceptical. Be very, very sceptical.

Craig Murray was British Ambassador to Uzbekistan from August 2002 to October 2004.

and I let it sit there in the "Alleged" file.

Until:

the little fuss about Bush forcing the Brits to start knocking down doors before they wanted to. (How this happens STILL seems beyond any semblance of  whatever)

BUT! turns out there was an intercepted email!
   "Start your attacks now."

Out of the Alleged file, into Scarey BS file.  If these "plotters" didn't use a code word even for "attack"...well, how real is that?  Really Bushie.

do you think is necessary to announce attacks prior to the November elections? Is it possible to RSVP an attack for a special event?
It appears that not much evidence has been found for this most recent London attack, and they have started releasing people arrested as a result.

Does the administration have a copyright on these announcements or could I per-se, order an attack to coincide the arrival of my Mother-in Law's annual visit? Just kidding Mom!!!!

I know it's not something to poke fun at, in light of the seriousness of loss of life attached to attacks, but what can be done about this "Cry Wolf" bunch that are intent on total control of the fear factor?

Voting them out in November is one method, except how do I know that there isn't an electronic terrorist named Diebold waiting there to foil my choice?

The London arrests were as phony as a three dollar bill. The MO of the authorities is to pull these scare tactics whenever then need to bring the chatter back to the evil Muslim terrorists trying to destroy our freedoms, grab a few more rights and privileges from the people... and distract them from some failures or malfeasance.

The Lebanon thing was a disaster and they needed to remind us once again how evil and threatening terrorists are.

Their point man in the Dem party Lieberman took a body blow in the primaries and with it the attack Iraq policy was shown to have worn thin with the public. Time to scare the public again.

Then why not pick these surveilled terrorists in the ACT?   What was the need to grab them in the middle of the night?  I suspect with good lawyers most will be released.

The trouble is... we now can't fly with a bottle of water, a book or toothpaste.  Rubbish!

We need to push back hard against these fascists and their media lapdogs.  I wouldn't expect an expose from our media... they love this sh*t.

9.11 proved to them that this type of mass hysteria can work.  They succeeded in stealing about a half a trillion bucks with that caper... and trashed the constitution in the process and took out perhaps 150,000 people in the process... and have wrecked two countries.

We are an nation of sheep, of naive, ignorant lemmings... we are being led right off the cliff.

I wonder what each new terror plot does for network news ratings?  Do people watch the news more when there's a war?  What does that do for advertising revenues for the major networks?  Do they charge more or get more advertising customers during a crisis?

Anybody know where I could find data on such things?

What if a grassroots movement began in cyberspace via e-mail  to hit the main stream media news program  sponsors where it hurts- in the pocketbook.  The reason for the boycott action is the lapdog stance of the coverage, and  its knee jerk  preoccupation with trivia at the expense of  playing a  real fourth estate role as a source of information for citizens in a democracy. The 24/7 media is a major contributor  to the dumbing down
and misinformation that is reaching the electorate.

Citizens could send e-mails to the news web site such as CNN, NBC,ABC and CNBC telling them that this former viewer citizen  is boycotting all the services and products that are advertised during the showuntil they see a substantial and dramatic change in format and coverage.

The e-mail would list the products and services that  they are boycotting.

For example, I am shifting to a new brand of shampoo, soap, weight reducer, cereal, fast food eateryetc. My subscription to magazines, newspapers or newsletters are being cancelled.

Coupled with this e-mail campaign would be the reporting on many  web sites of  the number of grass root boycotters. There would need to be some kinds of evidence that could show up as a TV picture -An image of the number counter clicking off new the ever increasing number of  boycotters, interviews with the man in the street in various geographic locations, grandmothers, shoppers at the super markets, political science professor or political writers noting the potential impact of this grassroots movement, etc.)

A section of a  websites could be set aside to report the numbers by news show

     CNN     1, 408,000
     ABC      3,200,111
      etc.

just as they once reported the population clock figures, the expanding national debt per citizen, or the Viet Nam  body counts.

This grass roots movement would soon show up in the MSM just as the spontaneous anti-immigration legislation marches began to get news coverage--because of the size, and nationwide vigor.

It is my fervent hope that George Bush has exhausted
his supply of antics.  It is a shame that over 2500 men have been lost in Iraq. But, I do not feel sorry for them or their families.  They should have done what Clinton and Bush did during the Viet Nam war.
They should have refused to serve.  After all, this war, like the Viet Nam war, did not have United Nations sanction. Bush was an outright aggressor in his attack on Iraq.

Never, never in my life have I dispised some one as much as I do George Bush. There are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe that man. I wont be around then; but, wouldn't it be most interesting to see how History treats him in text books.

And we don't need people of Lieberman's ilk in Congress either. He proved to be nothing but a Republican in sheep's clothing. As an independant,
I neither have respect for him.

Vote in November. Royally defeat the Republicans.

How much longer will it be before Rove and Co. turn their attention to Olbermann?? I have no doubt of Olbermann's ability to defend himself, but he may find himself in the middle of a full scale shit storm. I suggest that all of us here at TO, along with our friends and families, offer our encouragement and send letters to MSNBC supporting Olbermann's efforts. Unless I am very, very mistaken, this brave reporter will soon need all the friends he can find.

Every time I hear bad news for Bush, I expect to hear worse news for us.  As I watched in horror the unfolding of events in Lebanon, I wondered how far the administration would let it go on.  I think Olmert's falling approval rating had more to do with the cease-fire than anything the US did.  But our president, instead of saying "Oops"  just keeps blundering on and on.  The minute one topics seems to fail him, Korea, Iran, Iraq, he changes the subject.  Lebanon as a distraction is gone, so lets turn on the "Terror" distraction again.  As this fear wanes, and his popularity wanes with it, what will our October surprise be?  And what about October of '08?

Cesar, the "Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel, uses a sound that is somewhere between and snake hiss and a whistle to gain the full attention of the dogs he trains. It works. It turns out that dogs do not multi task very well, so you need there complete attention. We have tried it with our dog, and he is better trained every day.
Bush does the same think. The mantra-like use of "terror" and "terrorist" get the attention of the people. If you want to lead a nation on a lunatic's crusade, you need to train them first.

a post I submitted earlier on another thread, because I feel time is of the essence in the troubling and critical state we find our world in at this moment. People, I sincerely feel that our voices have made a difference in identifying the Bogeyman among us, BUT (a HUGE emphasis on BUT)the forces that are at play may have become decidedly more urgent in delivering the planned rollout for "A New World Order" than we, in our apathy have suspected, or considered.

Where I feel it was planned by Neoconservative's et al... to have the pieces of the plan in place by the end of the Bush term of government, I sense an ever increasing urgency arising from this collaboration of sick minds and "Ism's" to step up the plan completion dates, and to act before the mid term elections in November. Call it paranoia, intuition, sixth sense, whatever - the little niggle in the back of my mind says that the nervousness of losing their opportunity that has been held through the total control of our Congress and administration, has resulted in a marked step-up to avoid the possibility of the plan being scuttled by a turn in the U.S. political partisan arena.

I also feel that our elected Democrat's have been privy to this plan and have opted to remain on board for the ride and have silently sold Democracy down the river for the sake of saving their own worthless hides in the ensuing flood.

Possibly, what we have all predicted as another "9/11 type incident" brought on by Rovian strategies, is not that at all, but rather one of the final moves to gain control of global resources through a systematic removal of stubborn resistance in the middle east region.

Throughout these years since the attempts of this administrations to deceive not just the American people, but the world, on the grounds for invading Iraq under the guise of "War on Terrorism", we all have been constantly set-up with distractions, fear mongering, and chases down dead end streets in order to ultimately distract everyone from the game being played out for global resource control.

Though our voices are being heard somewhat over the din of the ongoing war machine and multitude of distractions, we are but a small contingency force of resistence.

Most people around us are absolutely unconscious to what is happening, don't give a damn unless it happens in their own backyard, content to let sleeping dog's lie because they are profitting from world events, or wouldn't say shit if they had a mouthful!

Unfortunately we hold our species in much higher moral regard than is actually warranted or deserved. This will be our ultimate downfall! The only thing that holds mankind back from Anarchy as it exists in the animal kingdom is our sentient abilities over that of the lesser non sentient animal's on the planet. Or so the story line goes.

Please consider the post I submitted on "France to the Rescue", and read the other posts as well in order to let the urgency of the times sink in and cause you to act, if you have the nerve to stand up and fight. If you continue in the dream state, the purge of our world will not stop and true freedom and democracy will have been fleeting dreams of a long forgotten people on this planet. Our space in history is but a fleeting blink of an eye, but the blink will change humanity forever more if we allow it!

This isn't Science fiction, and it's not a hollywood creation people, it's happening under your very noses while your eyes are open. Stop the world and say enough - NOW!

I am no chemist but this guy seems to know what he is talking about:

TATP is made from hydrogen peroxide solution, acetone and sulfuric acid. The reaction can be carried out with just about any concentration, but is best done with concentrated solutions of both peroxide and acetone.
"The peroxide and acetone can be pre-mixed, but the acid must be added, a drop at a time, to the solution, all the while continuously stirring it and keeping it continuously chilled. This step of the process will take several hours, during which the fumes given off will be substantial and quite overpowering, thus a lab-quality air evacuation system is required. (ES: right here, the whole idea of a TATP bomb becomes ludicrous. Difficult in a lab, but impossible in an airplane due to the environment - the toilet - and the time requirement.)
"One then must let the resulting solution stand for an extended period at temperatures above the freezing point, but definitely below 10 Celsius (50 Fahrenheit). Above 10 Celsius, the TATP does not form; instead, diperoxide forms, which is so unstable it cannot be worked with. The time required for the reaction to go to completion is at least 24 hours and often several days.
"Once the TATP forms, it crystallizes as snowflakes from the solution and must be harvested by filtration and the liquid discarded. The TATP then is dried and carefully stored until needed. It must be stored below 10 Celsius or it converts spontaneously to the unstable diperoxide.
"There is neither the time, the workspace nor the other materials required to make TATP on an airliner. The time required, the temperatures required, the workspace required and the need to dry the chemical prior to use preclude this story being reasonable. This chemical process is much more sensitive than making, for example, nitroglycerin."

The "media" are a well-informed community of men and women writers, researchers and reporters who answer to managers who, in turn, take their marching orders from the well-heeled executives and lawyers who, in their turn, are accountable to boards of directors and shareholders. It's a business, just like any other business.

And if executives think that they have to push the envelope to lie, cheat, steal or pervert the truth on their way to ratings that will 'enhance shareholder value,' then they think they are just perfectly right to do so.  Because that is the strategic goal of any corporation, and the FCC and SEC be damned...to a  certain extent...as long as their stock value goes up

So, if you want to keep reading the truth that no one dares to publish for some reason,  send in a fin or two to this media company whose strategic goal seems to be adding shareholder value by reporting the truth. Period.

They need the money, bad.  Non profit means just that.  Every dime goes back into the truth.  Thus, there are NO EXECUTIVES at  t r u t h o u t.org.

Better safe than sorry. If the feds don't cry out when something is suspected then if a real terrorist attack happens and Bush says...oh, well we didn't want to scare everybody...then he's dead meat. You know this already, so why the constant critismism? I'll tell you why, you think conservatives are wrong. Stop playing partisan BS.

Here's the real fear. I'm SOOO scared of wiretaps, my personal liberties etc etc etc!!! being eroded by this administration!!
This crap is the fear the liberals spread among the American people, while we try to pretend that 9/11 was an isolated incident and that there is no real war on terror.

Let me share the following information with all of you. This is the truth ...

March 5th, 2003 CAPSTONE EVENT, ALEXANDRIA, VA
                Sheraton Old Towne Suites
                St. Asaph St.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:  Newt Gingrich

The Capstone Dinner & Address is the finale of a 6-week course required of higher level military officers during their career.

Newt rose to the podium. I remeber cringing internally, coaching myself silently to be open-minded. Newt bgan to speak: I was surprised. He spoke about his philosophical evolution which he attributes to his exposure to many different cultures; particularly those in Africa.

However, several minutes later, Newt abrubtly transitioned into war with Iraq. It was as is someone dropped a quarter into a juke box: from an old, country and western song; to heavy metal.

Newt said this:

"Men: prepare your troops. The United States will invade Iraq in two, to two and a half weeks!"

The room erupted into chaos: the officers shot out of their chairs, knocking some of them over; arms waved wildly through the air; and questions were fired at Newt like aumminition from an automatic weapon. One officer shouted out: "We have no armor." Another said,"There is NO equipment: my men aren't ready." And a third protested: "I have heard nothing of this - what is the strategy?"

I turned to my date, seething. "Shhhh" he whispered, caressing my shoulder. My disdian for Newt had returned,

I looked around the room, memorizing the expressions of disbelief, the confusion, the utter chaos that had engulfed the room. Spouses fought back tears. And there was one, only one officer who stood, pumping his clinched fist in the air, "barking" with glee. I shook my head.

Newt was clearly not expecting this response. He continued to try to restore calm back to the room. Eventually, silence fell; Newt returned to the microphone.

"All you need to know now is that you ARE going. Everything will be in place: just know that you are going in two to two and a half weeks. Get your affairs in order."

Again, I turned to my date, angry:
"E - A - S - Y", shhhhh," he replied. I pivoted back around in my chair to hear Newt say these words; the most damning of all:

"When the public asks why we are going to war; tell them we are going to liberate the Iraqi people. USE the word LIBERATE."

"There are no WMDs, are there?" I questioned my date. "How would he know this? Shouldn't information of this caliber; a declaration of war be disseminated by Bush or Rumsfeld? What is going on?"

"Shhhhhh."

Newt excused himself to file his commentary at FOX Studios. On his way out of the room, he stopped directly in front of me:

"Well - what's your name?" Newt asked.

I told him.

"What did you think about tonight's event?" he queried.

"Well, the salmon was okay," I replied.

"So, I take it you don't agree with my position on Iraq."

"I'm a hundred and eighty degrees from you Newt."

"Well, lets discuss our differences over a couple of drinks" he suggested.

I declined and said he would have my position in writing. He has. And now he knows that I will be VERY outspoken about his involvement in the OSP.

The Office of Special Plans is comprised of many high profile AEI neo-cons and Pentagon officials, who colluded to falsify the pre-war intel - namely Wilson's Niger "yellowcake" report. When former Ambassador Wilson became a moral obstacle by refusing to modify his report; Plame's name was leaked to create a crisis personal situation for the Wilson family.

I have spoken with former CIA counter terror experts, investigative reporters Robert Dreyfuss, Mel Goodman, Col. Karen Kwiatkowski (who was present at the OSP meetings), and others.

I will NOT be SILENT about this gross level of deception that has cost thousand of our military their lives, not to mention what has happened to the Iraqi people. With news of every deployment, my heart breaks, and the frustration mounts.

I can go on and on, but let me ask all of you this very important question:

IF, another nation came to our shores, invaded our country; killing thousands and thousands in their wake - to access a natural resource that our country had, and their country lacked: in an effort to stabilize their economy - how would we (Americans) respond?

TRUTH is the lens that creates vision.
             LIES distort the vision.

You CANNOT  build  policy  on  lies - and that's exactly what they have done; to the detriment of all of us.

They are "prostitute puppets" whose political strings are eagerly pulled by corporations.
Members of Congress and lobbyists are the pimps that facilitate, and seal the deals between the parties.

Why have our voices grown silent?

If you've not read the PNAC Mission Statement, google it and read where Cheney, Wolfowitz, etc. openly discuss genocide as part of their plan for world domination via the U.S. Military, written years ago.

I am ignorant of the day to day affairs of the military but I understand that even Navy ships built with active MFA and LFA sonar bear a pricetag of $9 billion each. We are currently fighting their RIMPAC wargames in our waters.

In my opinion all the controversy over events and details can be wrapped up in one word: diversion...and what the neocons are successfully doing is accomplishing their mission statement, pouring billions into their own bank accounts while draining the Treasury and creating more war.

They are in the war business! and will commit murder to create and perpetuate it, even our own. As far as I'm concerned the PNAC Mission Statement proves it.

Even from a distance, I just can't understand why Congress can't act to impeach the bastards. What is it going to take? Another 9/11?
