Rove offers to help Lieberman (seriously)

By WilliamPitt

Wed Aug 9th, 2006 at 01:32:08 PM EDT :: Midterms 2006

Well, it took all of 12 hours.

Lieberman goes down to defeat in Connecticut, sounds for all the world like a petulant Republican while deriding "partisan politics" after an inter-party primary (someone please explain the physics of that one), and slaps aside the party he has belonged to for decades to run as an Independent. So much for all those DLC calls to "get behind the candidate" we've been hearing for so long.

The sun comes up on the ashes of Lieberman's political career, and lo and behold, here is Karl Rove offering his help. "According to a close Lieberman adviser," reports ABC News, "the President's political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: 'The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do.'"

Check out the rest of that linked article for yourselves. It is, in the end, not all that surprising.

As bad as the kiss of Bush was, the kill of Karl Rove for a Democrat is like death. That this George Stephanopoulos blogging this does nothing but give credibility to the story. Former Democrat White House insider turned newsman is someone who an insider from Lieberman's camp might say something to. But why would Rove call? Poor Joe the guy is toast and Rove has the torch.

In spite of the denials that he offered help, why WOULD he call? The fact that he DID call lends credence to all those who have called Joe a Republican in disguise; the kiss was merely a public acknowledgement of a "brother" in fact as well as spirit and ideology.

I am thankful for the CT bravehearts whose vote made such a difference. In spite of the whining from Joe about hacking, stolen shrimp, and even trashing of campaign materials, these savvy voters were not fooled one bit.

Now MSM? That's another story altogether!

Good ole Joe L. promises to run as an Independent -- turned in the paperwork today.  I'm sure the Republicans love that.  This way the Democratic vote may very well be split and the Republicans can win CT.  They're banking on some of Joe's loyal supporters to vote for him instead of the Democrat nominee, Lamont.

Divide and conquer.  I bet "Invited NC" is loving this!

When a politician that you disagree with loses, and has complaints about underhanded, dirty, and illegal tricks, you call it whining?  How could Joe lose?  If the Republican powerhouse wanted him to win, wouldn't they just fix the voting machines?  After all, that's what you accuse them of doing every time your guys lose.  And, what is wrong with Joe running as an independent?  If the Democratic party has swerved so far to the left that they can't support their former Vice-Presidential pick, don't you think that they are going to alienate many people?  I see this as a win for the GOP.  If Joe runs as an independent, he will have a good shot at winning.  That's one less Demoncrat in the Senate.

I'm not in favor of dirty tricks played on any campaign, or interference with any election.  Candidates should win on their own merits, not with fraud.  You will understand, however, if I do not immediately assume Lieberman's charges are true.  If he has evidence, let him present it.

Karl Rove's favorite trick is to falsely and pre-emptively charge your opponent with doing whatever dirty trick your own side is doing.  That way your opponent is caught off guard, and his counter-charges, when they come, will just sound lame.

How could Joe lose? If the Republican powerhouse wanted him to win, wouldn't they just fix the voting machines? Perhaps the voting machines were fixed. Since there is no exit poll data we will never know. The polls at the end had Lamont 6 percentage points ahead. The final vote tallies were 52 to 48 well withing the margin of error, but without exit polls one never knows. Changing 1 vote out of a 100 could just as easily lead to that 2% difference. Changes that small in close elections can have profound impacts and are hard as hell to detect. Who would have guessed two months ago Lieberman would have needed more help?

And, what is wrong with Joe running as an independent? Nothing is wrong, unless Joe want's to claim he is a Democrat. The issue is not Senator Lieberman running as an independent, the issue is when he does that then loyal Democrats should not support him. That is what being a member of a party is all about. What Senator Lieberman has not done is articulated a principle he is upholding by running as an independent other than Joe wants a job.

If the Democratic party has swerved so far to the left that they can't support their former Vice-Presidential pick, don't you think that they are going to alienate many people? Actually I think Senator Lieberman swung so far to the right he alienated many people.

I see this as a win for the GOP. Whatever turns you on. I see this as a battle for the soul of the democratic party.

Joe L, has either been an out and out infiltraitor for a long time, or he has been straddling that fence for too long, playing his own game and serving from both sides of the net.

So, he miscalculated, his foot slipped, and he came down on his cojones.  I feel no sympathy for his pain!

A coup de grace by his best is the most he can expect.

...he knows a chance to exploit Liebracrats when he sees one.  Yes we do have Democrats with chameleon like character- changing with the political winds, incapable of yielding to the winds of change.  Rove simply smells the blood in the water.

Since some people continue to be confused about it, here's the Republican/Neo-Con power strategy in a nutshell.  In order to win (or steal) an election your party has to have a clear majority of the votes.   It you need to tamper with the voting machines the percentages have to be reasonably close.  Where some states have voting machines and others don't, you only have to focus on the states that have the machines to affect the results of any national election in any country.  In this country, if the public perceives that the election outcome is going to be close, you may only need to steal electoral votes from one or two states to steal the whole enchilada.  This is what happened in Florida 2000 and Ohio in 2004.

The mechanics of stealing elections are firmly in place and apparently Democrats won't change those conditions anytime soon.  Being the evil genius he is, Rove will just as soon play swing voting Democrats as hanging chads.   In fact Liebracrats could become the best thing for Republicans since Independents.

The counter strategy is the temporary abolition of voting machines (until they can be made tamper proof) and the development of a Truth a Reconciliation Movement to investigate 9-11, the run-up to the Iraq War and the corporate malfeasance that creates no-bid contracts, war profiteering and mis-management of taxpayer revenues ($9 billion missing in Iraq for example).  The public will support such a move and Rove has no counter strategy except to allow Cheney to promote more false flag operations like the one pulled last week in England.

Democrats who are part-time believers of the Bush Administration are the worse enemies of democracy.  They fall for the fear and terror game every time.  Rove must be proud
when he can thwart a revolution of thinking people on the brink of shattering his world of deceit.  Fortunately, the people always win in the final analysis.

Well I ain't surprized at all.  Look it's sheer genius really.  If Lieberman can roost up enough support and split the Democratic vote...well then the GOP candidate might not even have to break a sweat to get elected.  Call it the Nader effect if you like.  It worked once, it can work again, and before you know it, a heavily dmeocratic state has been delivered to the republicans.  It makes perfect sense and fits the Karl Rove divide and conquer playbook.  Come on people, don't let the smooth taste fool you again.  I personally believe it's a very petulant move on Lieberman's part and I'm glad the dems got rid of him, but all teeth haven't been pulled yet...ya better watch your back!

Anybody know what Joe's business ties are?  What kind of "contract" or easy money will he get out of this?  In this case I think it's prudent to follow the money.

Let's just hope the people of CT are not fooled.

MSM is reporting that Lamont won because of Iraq, dislike of Bush and "far left liberal bloggers." However the NYT editorial attributes the win to "moderate" CT Democrats. It will be interesting to see who votes for whom - will Republicans cross over and vote for Joe? Will they vote for their own candidate? Will truly moderate Dems stay with Lamont or jump to Joe? Will the Dems let Rove split them apart and allow themselves to be "played"? Does Joe care about anybody but himself? (I can answer that one.)

I am receiving emails tonight from Wesley Clarke and other Democrats who are sending out petitions asking us to send Joe a message that we think he needs to gracefully admit defeat and get behind the winner, Lamont. I signed and sent on. I am also forwarding it to friends. Perhaps if Joe hears from a million or so ordinary Americans, he will realize that he is painting himself into the Republican party so fast, he'll never be able to salvage what might remain of his reputation.

whether people will follow their conscience rather than party affiliation

The major parties play into a two party system which maintains itself but in my opinion does not adequately represent the wishes of all of the people..it cant 2 options for a nation of 300 million?

In the broader picture of this nation...is Joe running bad?

I almost think that challenging the hegemony of the parties, or in fac t demonstrating thathegemony, might be worth more to the nation than the seat itself.

I think the challenge of Lamont was like a third party challenge; Joe represented the status quo/in-team/old party and Lamont took him on. I'm not sure who Joe really represents now, running as an Independent. I guess we'll see if CT will actually divide into three groups or if the Republicans will use Joe as a wedge, in effect just maintaining the two-party setup. They could very well pull their weak Republican contender out, replace him with a stronger contender, split the Dems and then take CT back to red status. If so, Joe plays right into their hands. Or, they could rally behind Joe, pull off enough right wing Dems to vote for Joe, and put him back in office as their puppet. Either way, the Republicans win and either way, it's a two-party game.

I haven't heard much about the Independents in CT, have you? If there truly is a separate group of undecideds and Joe is their man, then his run as an Independent would appear to be (on the surface) legitimate. However, I have never trusted the man, so I would tend to doubt his rationale regardless of what it might be! Sorry!

CT has the highest percentage of independants in the nation which is why its viable..

In general people try to vote for the lesser of two evils in a two party system. Unless its so bad that they need to vote for a third party.

Overall I hope people dont lose sight of the broader issue while worrying about the candidates.

The "Fact" is Americans are watching their Army being chewed up in an endless war, Iraq spinning into civil war, and our treasury being pillaged in the biggest money grab since the Brinks Job.

The People are pissed, and Joe L., the stinkin' toady war-mongering SOB, was fired BY THE PEOPLE! Or is that too hard for the MSM hacks to figure out.

The "far left Liberal bloggers" seem to be a lot more mainstream these days. Maybe the emails you received WW show that the Democrats are actually using their heads....for once.

Joe no longer has support of his former party because of the left wing extremist groups trying to take over the Democratic party.  If these groups succeed, the democrats will see history repeat itself.  Remember McGovern?  Remember the 1968 Democratic National Convention?  It will happen again, and the GOP will win 5 of the next 6 presidential elections.
There was no referendum in this primary.  Three incumbents lost their bids for re-election:  Lieberman, who I think will win in November, good for the GOP; Cynthia "Cop-Slapper" McKinney, whose 9/11 conspiracy theories made her look like idiot, good for the GOP; and Joe Swartz (R) MI, who was nothing but a RINO, got beaten by a conservative challenger, also good for the GOP.

I love it; "Left wing extremists" taking over the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, the Republican Party is being taken over by a gang of religious crackpots trying to jumpstart the endtimes.
And in the middle, a lot of very angry people, watching our country being dragged down by an Administration that is slowly destroying our nation. Lieberman was and is an enabler of George Bush, and the more we see of Bush, his policies and his witlessness, the more his enablers will be tainted.

By the way, 1968 presents a valid comparison. Hubert Humphrey, an enabler of LBJ's war in VietNam, lost to Nixon. Humphrey was tainted by his stint as LBJ's VP. Nixon, at the apex of his career, presented a choce to voters, claiming he had a plan to end the war.
Sorry, but McGovern did not run until 1972. If the voters had known about Nixon's intrigues in 1972, as opposed to 1974, McGovern may have won. Of course, we will never know.

I dont want Lieberman to win

But I will be interested in measuring the power of the Democratic machine as things play out over the next few weeks.

We will be able to see exactly what the weight of money and power thrown behind Lamont will do.

I wonder if people realize that we can actually watch someone try and compete againt the machine and see what happens to them.

A sitting Senator at that.

If he is totally crushed over the next few weeks what wil that say about the system on the whole and the power of the parties?

It wil certainly be an interesting experiment.

From another blog  http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=18442

"August 09, 2006
Cheney's shot across the bow
White House correspondent Geoff Morrell blogs:

From their vacation homes in Texas and Wyoming, President Bush and Vice President Cheney offered their take -- or better yet, spin -- on Joe Lieberman's defeat. (At left, Lieberman talks to reporters today.)

They suggest it says less about the President's popularity or the war in Iraq than it does about who now controls the Democratic party.

"I know a lot of people have tried to make this a referendum on the president and I would flip it," White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said today. "I think instead it's a defining moment for the Democratic Party, whose national leaders now have made it clear that if you disagree with the extreme left in their party they're going to come after you."

The White House believes the anti-war wing of the Democratic Party has taken over and that will hurt them in the mid terms.

In a call to wire reporters from Jackson Hole, Vice President Cheney blasted liberal Democrats for "purging" his 2000 rival from their party. And he brought up terrorism. Here's the full quote:

"The thing that's partly disturbing about it is the fact that, the standpoint of our adversaries, if you will, in this conflict, and the al Qaeda types, they clearly are betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people in terms of our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task. And when we see the Democratic Party reject one of its own, a man they selected to be their vice presidential nominee just a few short years ago, it would seem to say a lot about the state the party is in today if that's becoming the dominant view of the Democratic Party, the basic, fundamental notion that somehow we can retreat behind our oceans and not be actively engaged in this conflict and be safe here at home, which clearly we know we won't -- we can't be."

He insisted Lieberman's loss is not an indication incumbents are in trouble this November, but he says it's a sure sign that national security will once again be a big issue.

In fact, not long after the White House released a transcript of Cheney's call, the RNC forwarded it to reporters across the country -- clearly trying to seize on divisions and disarray among Democrats."

Anyone want to take bets that it was Rove who took down Lieberman's web site, the night before the election?   Of course Joe blamed Ned Lamont's organization.  I wrote Joe a letter suggesting he look into the Rove possibility.

BREAKING NEWS -- CNN cuts away from David Gergen, mid-sentence, as he talks about Lieberman's loss and how the public is fed up with Bush's "adventurism"...

Why the cut away?

To report that a London terrorist plot has been discovered and broken up.  Only problem is, according to Ron Suskind's "One Percent Doctrine", that plot has been known about for years.  Why break the story now?

When CNN came back from the terrorist report, there was no more David Gergen.  Instead, they were back in Beirut with a report on how uncooperative Hezbollah is with the media.

But WHAT is going on in Wisconsin? So Rove and doodah were together in time for the "terrorist photo op." We should keep a count; we are within the 100 day countdown before the elections. We should monitor what is going on in the world; what negative stuff is emerging about doodah and the neocons; and exactly which "red alert" de jeure they pull out of the hat to distract the media and the public AND where those two are hanging out.

I saw Wolf Blitzer "interview" (I guess that's what he calls it) Pat Robertson yesterday evening, about his recent trip to Jerusalem to check out the progress of the holy war.  Robertson was grinning like the cat that ate the canary---and that metaphor isn't far off the mark.  The man is so goddamned delighted that Biblical prophecy is finally coming to pass, and so proud of Olmert for how "calm" he is and how "at peace" during this trying time, and how determined he is to see the mission through----securing the land of Abraham for God's chosen people so that Christ can come again.

I tell you, it's a good thing I don't keep guns in the house, because I'm sure that when I got up this morning I would regret having blown my TV to smithereens.

didn't he look like Satan in living color?  These people are so demonic.  Whatever happen to the Christians hating the Jews because the killed their Christ?  Get ready everybody next we'll see the image of Christ coming through the clouds via satellite.  Olmert is calm because of his military might that the US has supplied Israel with, that's why this mad man is calm.  They're a basket of negro toes.

Although it may be just a case of "Vote the rascals out," I believe we're going to see some Olympic quality 'distancing' from Democrats AND those other guys. I'm sure many Dems regret having ever expressed any support for the war. This may indeed be the election that changes the status quo.

The LaMont win was the first wave of American's overthrowing their disgusting and corrupt government!  They know it, and will say anything no matter how bazaar.

Yes, now through Nov. we'll enter the Outer Limits of the Twilight Zone: Lieberman ditching the Dems to win at any cost, and the Repugs ditching the GOP candidate in CT to root for the (Dem) Independent.  WTF????

Should I just stick my fingers in my ears till after Nov., or stay tuned and watch the insane hilarity of their tactics?  You can literally smell the fear in their words.
